George Condo

George Condo is an American artist born in 1957, he studied art and music theory at the University of Massachusetts. After studying there for two years he moved to Boston and started working in a silk screen shop. After meeting such artists as Jean-Michel Basquiat he moved to Ludlow Street in New York in order to pursue his artist career. It was in the early 1980’s when George Condo started gaining some recognition with his work which he called “Artificial Realism”. His style takes characteristics from more traditional realistic types of paintings and more abstract work as well such as the Cubist movement. George Condo helped rejuvenate the art scene in the early 80’s along with Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring.

George Condo has been commissioned for work by the likes of Jack Kerouac for his Book of Sketches book and Kanye West for his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album. This was how I found out about George Condo and his work. He also gained more recent fame by painting a Hermes bag for Kim Kardashian.

Here are some of his non-commissioned works.
